Sidemount diving has its origins in cave diving, by taking the tanks off of their backs and placing them along the side of their body tec divers were able to reduce their profile and gain access to some very tight spots, wreck divers also saw the advantages in this, more recently it has found it’s way into open water diving.
About Sidemount Diving
Over the years Sidemount has found its way into open water tec and now recreational diving. In addition to the advantages it gives to cave and wreck divers having your tanks in front of you also provides extra gas, streamlining, the ability to identify and potential to fix any problems with your life supporting equipment, less strain on your back and easier transportation of your gear, two tanks are most definitely better than one!
