PADI Open Water course structure in Bali
The PADI Open Water Diver Course is divided into four main phases, ensuring a seamless and manageable learning experience:
Before the course begins : Knowledge Development (E-Learning)
Begin your journey with PADI’s eLearning platform, allowing you to complete the theoretical portion of the course at your own pace, in your language, anytime and anywhere. Through interactive modules, videos, and quizzes, you’ll learn the fundamentals of scuba diving, including dive planning, safety measures, and understanding dive equipment. E-Learning have to be completed before confined open water dives.
Day 1: Knowledge development review and confined water dives
Start with a knowledge review with a small questionnaire. Then the training day can start, practice essential scuba diving skills in a controlled environment—a swimming pool. Under the guidance of our experienced instructors, you’ll develop confidence and proficiency in using dive gear, controlling buoyancy, and handling basic safety procedures in a safe and relaxed setting.
Day 2: Open Water Dives at top Bali dive sites – Padang Bai, Blue Lagoon
Experience your first two open water dives at Bali’s premier dive locations. These dives allow you to apply the skills learned in the pool while exploring stunning underwater ecosystems, from vibrant coral gardens to fascinating marine life. Maximum depth of 12m.
Day 3: Final Open Water Dives and Certification – Tulamben USAT shipwreck
Complete your training with two additional open water dives, solidifying your skills and gaining valuable experience in real-world diving conditions. By the end of this phase, you’ll earn your PADI Open Water Diver certification, opening the door to a lifetime of underwater exploration. Maximum depth of 18m.

If you are over 10 years old and answer "No" to the medical questions then you are in! Fill out the paperwork, a few signatures and you are almost ready to get wet.
LEARNING MATERIALS
You will work through the learning materials and watch the DVD’s together with other students and an experienced PADI Instructor

FIRST BREATH

Do I need prior experience to join the Open Water course?
No prior experience is needed to enroll in the PADI Open Water Diver Course. It is designed for beginners who have never dived before. As long as you meet the minimum age requirement and are in good health, you can begin your scuba diving journey with us in Bali.
How long does the Open Water course take?
The course typically takes three days to complete. Day 1 focuses on confined water dives and practicing skills in a swimming pool. Days 2 and 3 are dedicated to open water dives at Bali’s stunning dive sites. Completing the eLearning knowledge development before arriving in Bali saves time and ensures you can focus on hands-on training.
Is the PADI Open Water certification internationally recognized?
Yes, the PADI Open Water Diver certification is internationally recognized and allows you to dive up to 18 meters (60 feet) anywhere in the world. It’s a lifetime certification and the most globally recognized credential in the diving community.
What is the minimum age for the Open Water course?
The minimum age to enroll in the PADI Open Water Diver Course is 10 years old. Divers aged 10–14 will receive a Junior Open Water Diver certification, which can later be upgraded to a standard certification upon reaching 15 yo.
What should I bring to the course?
You just need to bring a swimsuit & sunscreen, a change of clothes and a reusable water bottle if you have one with you. All diving equipment, towel, snacks, water, lunch and refreshments are provided. Don’t forget to complete your eLearning module before arriving to make the most of your training.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer to enroll PADI Open Water course?
You don’t need to be an Olympic swimmer, but basic swimming ability is required. You’ll need to demonstrate the ability to swim 200 meters (or 300 meters with a mask, fins, and snorkel) and float or tread water for 10 minutes.
Is scuba diving safe for beginners?
Yes! Safety is our top priority. Our PADI-instructors provide comprehensive briefings and explanation during course and ensure you feel comfortable at every step.
Where will the open water dives take place?
Our open water dives take place at Bali’s top dive sites. First day with pool session will be done in Sanur at our Bali Aqua Dive center. The two days with Open Water dives are usually Padang Bai and Tulamben. You can have Option for third day at Nusa Penida with an extra dive (5 in total during the course). Each site offers unique marine life and stunning underwater landscapes, providing a perfect environment for your first dives.
Can I customize the course schedule?
Yes, we can accommodate your schedule if you need flexibility. Please let us know in advance, and we’ll tailor the course to fit your needs while ensuring you meet all PADI requirements.
What if I feel nervous about diving?
Feeling nervous is completely normal for first-time divers. Our experienced instructors are trained to help you build confidence through gradual skill development and personalized attention. You’ll progress at your own pace to ensure you feel comfortable every step of the way.
How deep will I dive for my PADI Open Water Course?
The maximum depth will be 12 meters (40 feet) for your two first training dives, the 2 last dives will be conducted to a maximum of 18 m but this will depend on your comfort level.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Your safety comes first. If conditions are unfavorable, we’ll change dive site and offer an alternative location. Rain does not affect, but wave can in some occasions.
What if I want to continue diving?
If you fall in love with diving and want to continue you have 2 options :
- You can choose to do Fun dive with our team and practice your buoyency.
- Continue your education, you can easily upgrade to a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (2 days with 5 dives) course to become a more skilled diver.
