What Is the PADI Divemaster Course?

The PADI Divemaster course is the first level of professional scuba diving certification. As a certified Divemaster, you are qualified to supervise diving activities, guide certified divers independently, and assist PADI Instructors during courses… The certification is recognised worldwide and opens the door to a professional diving career in dive centers, resorts, and liveaboards across the globe.

The Divemaster course is not a holiday program – it is a professional training internship that develops your leadership skills, refines your diving to demonstration quality, and prepares you to manage real-world diving operations. At Bali Aqua, you train alongside working instructors, assist on real PADI courses, and guide genuine clients from day one of your readiness assessment.

The Divemaster certification is also the mandatory prerequisite for the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) – the next step for those who want to teach scuba diving professionally.

PADI Divemaster Mandatory Dive Equipment

All necessary diving equipment is provided by Bali Aqua throughout your Divemaster program. However, as a future dive professional, having your own personal gear makes a significant difference to your comfort, performance, and readiness for your first job. We recommend investing in the following items before or during your internship:

Priority gear – invest in these first:

  • Dive computer – essential for tracking depth, time, and decompression limits during every dive. Non-negotiable as a professional
  • Delayed Surface Marker Buoy (DSMB) and reel – mandatory safety equipment for any working Divemaster
  • Mask and snorkel – a well-fitting personal mask makes a real difference across hundreds of dives
  • Open heel fins and booties – comfort and propulsion matter when you are in the water every day
  • Dive knife or cutting tool – required safety tool for all dive professionals
  • Compass – essential for navigation skills and practical assessments
  • Whistle and signalling device – mandatory safety equipment
  • Underwater slate and pen – for mapping projects, briefings, and communication underwater

Later investment – when budget allows:

  • Wetsuit – 3mm with undervest recommended for Bali’s water temperatures. Provided during your course but worth owning for career use
  • BCD and regulator – the largest investment. Fully provided during your internship – purchase when you start your first job

As an official TUSA Indonesia distributor, we offer exclusive preferred pricing on professional dive equipment for all Divemaster candidates. Ask us about our Divemaster gear packages to get the best equipment at the best price.
